FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers to common questions.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
-
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what's bringing you to counseling, your goals, and any questions you may have. There's no pressure to share everything at once—this is simply the beginning of your healing journey.
-
You don't have to wait until you're in crisis to benefit from counseling. If something is weighing on you, affecting your relationships, or keeping you from feeling like yourself, therapy can help. You deserve support, no matter how big or small your concerns may seem.
-
That's completely okay — and honestly, very common. You don't need the words before you come in. Part of what therapy does is help you find language for things that have felt wordless. We'll figure it out together, slowly and without pressure.
ABOUT THE WORK
-
My heart is in working with women who are carrying pain that often goes unseen by the people around them. If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place:
Healing from betrayal trauma — the specific devastation of discovering a partner's affair or hidden life
Women who have lost themselves through years of caretaking, people-pleasing, and putting everyone else first
Anxiety and depression that feels rooted in something deeper than you can quite name
Rebuilding your identity and sense of worth after relational wounds
If you're not sure whether you fit — reach out anyway. That's exactly what the free consultation is for.
-
When someone you love and trust hurts you in a way that shakes your sense of safety, the impact can be profound. This may happen through infidelity, deception, emotional affairs, secret behaviors, or other significant breaches of trust.
Many people find themselves questioning their reality, struggling to trust, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, or wondering why they don't feel like themselves anymore. Betrayal trauma isn't just about what happened—it's about the lasting impact it leaves behind. Healing begins with making sense of the pain, rebuilding trust in yourself, and rediscovering who you are beyond what happened.
-
The Restore Method™ is a framework I developed because I wanted my clients to have more than just a place to process pain — I wanted them to have a clear, purposeful path forward.
It walks through seven stages: Regulate, Establish, Separate, Target, Own, Rebuild, and Expand. Each one builds on the last, so you're never just sitting in the hard stuff — you're always moving forward with intention. From calming your nervous system on day one all the way to stepping fully into your future, it's a roadmap built specifically for women healing from betrayal trauma and self-loss.
-
I tailor therapy to each client's unique needs and goals. My approach is rooted in Person-Centered Therapy, creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered.
As an APTT (Associate Partner Trauma Specialist), I have specialized training in betrayal trauma. Depending on your needs, I may also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method techniques, betrayal trauma-informed interventions, and LENS Neurofeedback. My goal is to help you gain insight, process difficult experiences, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.
-
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Healing looks different for everyone. Some people come to therapy for support through a specific challenge, while others use therapy as a space for deeper healing, growth, and self-discovery.
We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our work based on your needs and goals. My goal is to help you build the confidence, insight, and tools to trust yourself, navigate challenges effectively, and feel ready to move forward without therapy.
-
Yes, absolutely. Anxiety and depression are incredibly common companions to betrayal trauma and caretaker burnout — and in my experience, they're often symptoms of something deeper rather than standalone conditions.
When someone has been betrayed, or has spent years giving everything to everyone else, the body and mind respond. Anxiety, heaviness, emotional exhaustion — these aren't character flaws or things to just push through. They're signals worth listening to.
When we address what's underneath, the anxiety and depression almost always begin to shift too. I'd love to help you get there.
GROUP THERAPY
-
The H.E.A.R.T. Group is a 12-week women's support group for betrayed partners — for women who have experienced infidelity, sexual secrets, or a partner's sex or pornography addiction. It is a small, clinically facilitated program that meets weekly in person in Katy, Texas. The cornerstones of our group are connection, confidentiality, and compassion.
-
The H.E.A.R.T. Group is for women who have experienced betrayal trauma in their intimate marriage or relationship. If your spouse or partner has been keeping sexual secrets, is dealing with sex or pornography addiction, or you have discovered an affair — this group was created for you.
-
How is The H.E.A.R.T. Group different from individual therapy?
Individual therapy is private, one-on-one, and tailored entirely to your specific story and needs. The H.E.A.R.T. Group adds something individual therapy can't replicate — the healing that happens when you are surrounded by women who truly understand what you're carrying. Many women find that being in community with others who get it changes everything. -
The H.E.A.R.T. Group meets every Wednesday from 12:00–1:30 PM in person in my office in Fulshear, Texas. The next program begins January 13, 2027. Please note there is no meeting on January 27, 2027.
-
If you are interested in joining The H.E.A.R.T. Group, the first step is to complete the pre-assessment questionnaire on The H.E.A.R.T. Group page. Once completed, I will review your responses and reach out personally within 48 hours with next steps.
-
Yes — a pre-group assessment is required prior to acceptance into The H.E.A.R.T. Group. This is a brief 15-minute Zoom call with Heather to make sure the group is the right fit for where you are right now. It's a relaxed, caring conversation — not an interview.
-
Yes — confidentiality is one of the three cornerstones of the group. Everything shared in the group stays in the group. All participants agree to this as part of joining. Please note that as a licensed therapist in Texas, I am a mandated reporter of child abuse, elder abuse, and threats to harm self or others.
-
The fee is $85 per session for a 90-minute group session. Payment is billed on the first Wednesday of each month. A sliding scale of $50 per session is available for members experiencing serious financial hardship — please mention this during your assessment. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
-
The H.E.A.R.T. Group is offered in person only in the Katy, Texas area. The in-person format is intentional — there is something uniquely powerful about healing in the physical presence of women who understand your experience.

I'm a private-pay practice, which means I don't bill insurance directly — and that's a choice I made intentionally, with you in mind.
Working outside of insurance means your care is guided entirely by your needs rather than what an insurance company decides to approve. Your privacy stays protected — insurance companies typically require a mental health diagnosis and access to your treatment records, and private pay keeps that information under your control. It also means you're never required to receive a diagnosis just to get support.
If you have a PPO plan with out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to provide a superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. You also have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs — just ask and I'll provide one.
-
Payment is processed securely through the client portal prior to each session — so there's nothing to manage on the day of your appointment beyond simply showing up. I accept all major credit cards as well as HSA and FSA cards for your convenience. You'll receive instructions for setting this up as part of your intake paperwork.
-
Life happens, and I completely understand that plans sometimes change. If you need to cancel or reschedule I ask for at least 24 hours' notice so I can offer that time to another client who may need it.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee. This policy exists to protect the dedicated time I hold for every person I work with.

Yes. I offer secure virtual counseling sessions for clients located anywhere in Texas, as well as in-person sessions in the Katy, Fulshear, and Richmond area.

If you're unsure whether virtual or in-person counseling is the best fit for you, I'd be happy to discuss your options.
